Prediction market platform Kalshi has restricted access for users located in India as of 17 June 2026. The decision follows the implementation of updated national regulations governing real-money online betting services.
Regulatory Framework and Enforcement
The Indian regulatory framework, effective from 1 May 2026, prohibits platforms that accept monetary wagers on events with uncertain outcomes. Authorities classify these services as gambling operations regardless of corporate positioning as financial instruments. Kalshi contested this designation, but regulators maintained their stance and expanded enforcement measures across the sector. Regulatory actions now include direct platform blocks and restrictions on virtual private network access for international services.India represented a key trading region for the company, with single cricket match volumes exceeding $27 million. The platform updated its terms of service on 17 June to formally exclude Indian users. Geographic restrictions for the service now cover 55 countries worldwide, with more than ten jurisdictions introducing new limitations or outright bans on similar prediction market platforms during 2026.
